Spencer Dinwiddie is on his way to Washington, D.C., where he will team up with Bradley Beal to form a formidable offensive backcourt for the Wizards. Dinwiddie joins the Wizards after a sign-and-trade this offseason that allowed them to sign him as a restricted free agency without having to part with any of the players acquired in the Russell Westbrook trade, as they revamped their team in what ended up being one enormous move.
There’s plenty to be excited about with the Dinwiddie and Beal pairing, as the two are explosive off the dribble threats who will apply tons of pressure to opposing defenses and should, in theory, create a lot of open looks for Davis Bertans, Rui Hachimura, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and others. That won’t be the only pressure Dinwiddie is applying in the nation’s capital, though, as the point guard’s love of cryptocurrency is going to send him to Capitol Hill to lobby senators about Bitcoin.
Dinwiddie was joking, at least we assume he was, but it’s a terrific quote for separating oneself from prior Washington point guards. The Wizards will be an intriguing team to watch next season for a variety of reasons, including the fact that fans throughout the NBA will once again be paying attention to how they play as the league waits for Beal to leave. The Wizards, on the other hand, have positioned themselves well this offseason to build on last year’s playoff success with a much deeper roster, highlighted by the arrival of Dinwiddie, who will try to make an impact on and off the court in Washington next season.
