Kevin Abstract hasn’t released a solo album since 2016, when he released Arizona Baby. Following a spate of collaborations with his Brockhampton crew, the rapper appears to be working on a new solo record. For the time being, Abstract has a new song called “Sierra Nights,” which reunites him with longtime collaborator and friend Ryan Beatty. The song is a homage to the end of summer, and the video depicts the duo chilling — at gas stations, in living rooms, and on drives along the Pacific Coast Highway.
Abstract’s second single of the year, “Sierra Nights,” follows “Slugger,” which he released last month. That track, which had contributions from Snot and Slowthai and was co-produced by Abstract, Al Hug, and Brockhampton’s Romil Hemnani, was a feel-good track. The new tune arrives on the heels of the rapper’s announcement that his second solo album will be released this year.
Both of Abstract’s singles arrive not long after Brockhampton released Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine, the band’s second-to-last album together, according to Abstract. He remarked on Twitter, “We all love each other and we want to keep doing the best music we can.” “Everyone is just becoming a little older and has a lot to say outside of group projects,” says one student. We’ve spent the last ten years of our lives collaborating on music. We’re just doing what’s right for the next project.”
