Marvel’s Eternals has a new trailer ahead of its November 5, 2021 theatrical release, and while it primarily covers what we’ve already seen, it also includes a sequence that’s causing quite a stir on Twitter. The video turns to Gemma Chan’s character, Sersi, peering up at a massive figure covered in garnet armor and presumably floating in space shortly after the one-minute mark.
The trailer, in classic Marvel fashion, made no more mention of who this monster might be, leaving fans (and hundreds of other Twitter users) to hypothesize and debate about the mystery behemoth’s identity. Following Thanos’ defeat, many fans naturally turned their attention to Galactus, the rumored next big enemy for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Long-time Eternals fans, on the other hand, quickly pointed out that the figure is most likely Eson the Searcher, a member of the ancient Celestials race who once had the — wait for it — power stone. Those stones are, in some way, still in play. While some tweets were subtle in their delivery and others were more direct, almost all of them were hilarious.
Several Twitter users have had some pretty funny things to say about the seemingly unstoppable Eternals not intervening during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and End Game, and people are wondering what the MCU will look like with them in it going forward, in addition to some pretty funny discussions revolving around Eson. Some quipped that the Eternals could have killed Thanos with a single punch, while others tugged at the heartstrings by imagining RDJ’s Iron Man looking down from heaven, more than a little irritated by the events.
Last but not least, a large number of thirst tweets have begun to spread on Twitter. We can’t say we blame them, with a cast that includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.
If the memes are already this good ahead of the release of Eternals, we can’t wait to see them after the film hits theaters on November 5.
