Unlike the previous teaser for Chloé Zhao’s superhero film, which was big on vibes but weak on storyline, the latest (and final) trailer for Chloé Zhao’s superhero flick is heavy on both. “Five years ago, Thanos wiped off half of the universe’s inhabitants. “However, the people of this world brought everyone back with the snap of a finger,” Ajak, played by Salma Hayek, explains to Ikaris, played by Richard Madden. “The population’s abrupt return gave the needed energy for the emergence to begin. “How much longer do they have to preserve the world? “It’ll be seven days.”
That, along with Gemma Chan’s Sersi telling Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman that the Eternals arrived on Earth 7,000 years ago to defend humans from the evil Deviants, establishes the plot of the film. “We were commanded not to meddle in any human battles unless Deviants were involved,” she replies when asked why they didn’t help the Avengers in their struggle against Thanos, let alone decades of war. Eson the Searcher is introduced. Following that, we get a montage of “putting the squad together,” snatches of action-packed set pieces, Robb Stark blasting lasers out of his eyes, and an Ikea joke.
