Britney Spears’ lawyer isn’t messing around when it comes to fighting for her rights now that her father, Jamie Spears, has opted to resign as conservator of her estate. The protracted battle, though, appears to be far from done. According to CNN, Britney’s lawyer Mathew Rosengart has asked Jamie to resign as conservator immediately. Mathew wants Jamie to leave “today, before he gets suspended,” despite Jamie saying in a filing last month that he will eventually resign.
In addition, Mathew wants to prevent Jamie from receiving a significant multimillion-dollar payoff from his daughter for $2 million. Jamie is demanding the monies to cover legal and management fees, as well as reimbursement for continuing to do his best to stay current in the music, advertising, and entertainment industries, according to fresh filings filed Tuesday. Mathew is having none of it! He is ten toes down beside Britney and declares that he will not allow her father to bully or extort her. Jamie doesn’t have the right to try to hold Britney hostage by dictating the terms of his expulsion, according to him.
“This is not about him. It is about the best interests of his daughter, which as a matter of law, mandate his removal,” said Mathew. “ Even if he doesn’t care about the legal reasons that require his immediate departure, Mr. Spears should retire now, before he is suspended, if he loves his daughter. It’d be the right and proper thing to do.” Jamie has been Britney’s conservator for 13 years, and it’s evident he’s not going down without a fight. When both parties return to court, we’ll have to see which side the judge is on. On September 29th, the next hearing will take place. As additional information becomes available, we will continue to keep you informed.
