Waffle House, the breakfast-oriented franchise that spans most of the South, has long served late-night diners and roadside travelers as one of the happiest places on the planet. (It does, however, have its detractors.) However, as a new viral video demonstrates, things aren’t always so tranquil. Over Labor Day weekend, footage of a scuffle that erupted in an Atlanta branch captivated social media — and could have been much worse if one of the cooks hadn’t intervened.
The video begins with a fight between two female customers and a male customer. It’s tough to tell what they say, although one woman can be heard stating, “You should never say that.” She subsequently adds, “Let it go,” as another woman approaches the man.
A Waffle House cook is then seen yanking the man from his seat. That’s when things start to become serious. The man throws the first punch, but the cook follows up with several more strikes, bringing the misery to the man over and over again.
The video has been viewed millions of times and has gotten a lot of funny responses on Twitter. Some joked that everyone who works at Waffle House is a fighter.
One former Waffle House employee confirmed that take.
Others made jokes about Waffle House job interviews.
And others were reminded of Anthony Bourdain’s visit to Waffle House, where he declared the institution to be awesome.
