According to CNN, court papers were filed on Wednesday to end the 13-year Conservatorship.
“Recent occurrences linked to this conservatorship have brought into question whether conditions have altered to the extent that grounds for establishing a conservatorship may no longer exist,” according to the documents.
“Ms. Spears has stated to this Court that she wishes to reclaim control of her life free of the constraints of a conservatorship. She wants to be allowed to make decisions about her own health care, such as when, where, and how often she receives treatment. She wants to be in charge of the money she has earned through her job and spend it without oversight or supervision. She wants to be able to marry and have a child if she wants to. In short, she wants to live her life without the restraints of a conservator or a legal proceeding,” according to a section of the petition.
“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance,” the filing stated.
Mathew Rosengart referred to this situation as “vindication.”
“This filing represents another legal victory for Britney Spears — a massive one — as well as vindication for Ms. Spears,” Rosengart said in a statement to CNN. “It appears that Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath.”
During a hearing in July, Britney Spears said that she wanted to press charges against her father for “conservatorship abuse” and called the arrangement “f—ing cruelty.”
