Britney Spears‘ conservatorship may finally come to an end in the near future after thirteen years. According to a fresh report from NBC News, the singer’s father has petitioned the court to remove the conservatorship. Jamie’s daughter “is entitled to have this Court now carefully evaluate whether this conservatorship is no longer warranted,” according to a petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Britney’s father also states in the petition that his daughter’s circumstances have altered to the point where “grounds for establishing a conservatorship may no longer exist.” The filing is a big win for the singer, who has spent the last two years battling to have her father removed as her estate’s conservator. If she and her newly recruited lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, were successful, the next move for Britney and her team would have been to file to end the conservatorship, which she has described as “abusive” and “restrictive” to her desired lifestyle.
Jamie’s move could be in response to Britney’s recent claims against him. She accused her father of extorting her at the end of August, ahead of his likely removal as conservator. If Jamie refused to resign, Britney’s team recommended that he step down or be suspended from his post, which would begin on September 29.
