TSR We Global: Black women are triumphing all over the world, including in Ireland, where a stunning sista was recently crowned Miss Ireland for the first time in the pageant’s 74-year existence! Pamela Uba, on the other hand, is more than just a gorgeous face, hunny! According to Insider, the 26-year-old, who entered the competition as Miss Galway, is a model and a medical scientist. According to a news statement from the contest, she was the first Black woman to be crowned Miss Ireland since the event began in 1947. She also worked as a frontline nurse at the University Hospital of Galway throughout the pandemic.
“It’s like a dream come true,” says the narrator. Words can’t even begin to convey how I’m feeling right now, or how I’ve been feeling for the past week leading up to the final,” Uba posted on Instagram recently, alongside a photo of her wearing her Miss Ireland 2021 sash and emerald crown for the first time. “Getting to know, stand by, and go through this unique journey with so many incredible young women in the competition has been such a privilege,” she concluded. Director of Miss Ireland Brendan Marc Scully remarked in a news statement that Uba was “a joy from the start” and that she “laid her heart and her into her Miss Ireland journey.”
“She won the most Miss Ireland challenges, taking first place in both the debating and sports tasks. Scully added, “She was particularly great in the talent competition and the charity challenge.” According to the press release, Uba is a South African native who migrated to Ireland when she was eight years old. She and her family had fled Johannesburg and sought sanctuary in Ireland at the time. “It means so much to me,” Uba remarked in an interview with the Irish Times. I’m so glad I can show girls that race isn’t a barrier to success, and that no matter where you come from, the world is your oyster.”
