Fans and musicians alike are excited to see award events return, and the VMAs will be back in person tonight, much to the delight of many.

Despite masking and distancing techniques, live music and music festivals have been in full swing this year, but with qualifiers due to the lingering impact of COVID-19, the music sector has thrived. Fans and musicians alike are excited to see award events return, and the VMAs will be back in person tonight, much to the delight of many. Early September is the ideal time to take stock of everything that’s happened in pop and hip-hop recently, with a full calendar year of music releases behind us and a summer that came and went with a slew of high-profile recordings.

The field tonight is triple-stacked with talent, with Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, The Weeknd, and Ariana Grande, to mention a few, receiving big nominations. The VMAs in Brooklyn, which begin with a complete red carpet and pre-show, will also feature performances by several of the musicians up for prizes. Keep an eye out for our coverage of them, and keep an eye on the list below for updates on the winners, who are highlighted in bold, throughout the night. Congratulations to all of the artists that competed; this category is stacked with talent, and most of the fields are open to interpretation.
