When one fan climbed onstage to try to greet Lil Baby during his concert in Charlotte over the weekend, things became a little more boisterous than the show’s spectators expected. Even if you didn’t read the headline, you could probably figure out how the conversation ended: One of the stage security guys swung a flying elbow at the excessively passionate concertgoer, knocking him down and dragging him away. Although the fan’s intentions appeared to be kind — he appeared to only want a handshake – he received a different sort of pound, with the confused rapper asking, “What the f*ck you doing?”
And, well, it’s natural; we’ve all been pent up for a long time with little to do. Climbing onstage uninvitedly, on the other hand, has seldom resulted in anything other than a traumatic experience for the fan. Even if the barriers between stars and their admirers have blurred a lot in the “always online” social media era, there’s no reason to suppose the rules have altered, no matter how bored you are.
Meanwhile, Lil Baby can probably just feel relieved that security handled the situation and that it wasn’t a case of fans throwing things onstage. Another infant-monikered rapper had to dodge a “funky-ass Adidas” at Rolling Loud — although that became the least of DaBaby’s worries considering what followed.
