In Nancy Wenstrom’s Americana rock and country album, Inside Story, the music shares stories “inspired by a pure emotion, be it a struggle, heartfelt love, a longing, or just a simple feeling of delight.”
The 10-track album starts off strong with “California Love” and “Alabama Song,” which are bound to well up feelings of nostalgia even if you haven’t visited either state. According to Wenstrom” the former song “depicts the early years traveling as a child with my parents and living all over the USA” and her “love for the California redwoods inspired the album artwork and nature is a reoccurring theme throughout.”
The third song “Vintage Tears” brings an original and creative concept of having tears that you’ve been storing up to for so long—as you would with any vintage collectible. The song is enjoyable as well. Another standout is the classic love song “Lucky Me Lucky You,” where she muses that “no other lover could ever compare to you” and how they are lucky to have found love in each other.
The album ends with the upbeat song “Mercedes Ladies,” which sounds like a couple of ladies cruising down the street (in their respective Mercedes) like a classier bike gang with”Pink Ladies” jackets from Grease ready to take on the world. “We’re on our way,” sings Wenstrom in the song.
Overall, the album will have you swaying and bouncing forward and back as you listen.
