Hard Knocks has been a must-see television show for NFL fans and casual football watchers since 2001. HBO and NFL films’ documentary-style productions typically follow a single team during training camp and the preseason, providing unprecedented access and the opportunity to present top-level storytelling to a large audience. Hard Knocks, on the other hand, revealed on Thursday that it will be shifting gears and breaking new ground with its first-ever in-season production, which will follow the Indianapolis Colts during what the team believes would be a successful regular season and playoff run.
The new show will debut on Nov. 17, with a planned release each Wednesday evening. In addition, the announcement was revealed on NFL Network, and it was also stated that the Colts will be followed during a playoff run, if they can reach the postseason.
The 2020 version of the show follows both the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers during a pandemic-affected training camp. Still, the move from following the Dallas Cowboys in the preseason to following the Indianapolis Colts in the regular season will be interesting, and Indianapolis has plenty of storylines to follow with a new quarterback in Carson Wentz and a team that won 11 games last season.
It’ll be fascinating to watch what style this performance takes, especially given that the Colts are going through game-plan activities with specific opponents in mind. However, after two decades and 18 Emmys, the NFL Films and HBO partnership has earned the benefit of the doubt, and this should be a fun watch, especially for Colts fans.
