Joyner Lucas has had a string of successful collaborations with well-known hip-hop artists, and his most recent example finds him alongside J. Cole. The rappers admit to their mistakes in previous relationships on “Your Heart,” which often left their former lover brokenhearted and hurt by Lucas or Cole’s behavior. Both rappers employ age and insight to analyze their mistakes while sympathizing with the individual who was wronged.
The song comes after Lucas was at the center of one of the week’s most important stories. He accused Karen Civil, a well-known marketing strategist, of taking $60,000 from him about a decade ago after he approached her for aid with his burgeoning rap career. Lucas made the claims in a number of tweets, and during a Clubhouse debate about the topic, he even went back and forth with Civil.
“My son was on the way and you stole 60k from me before I got in the game @KarenCivil,” Lucas wrote in a tweet. “I hired you as a consultant and below attached was the memo you sent me. I was desperate for help and you knew that. After you was paid you went ghost and didn’t expect me to pop. here I am.”
