Ashanti will soon be joining the ranks of Taylor Swift and JoJo, among other singers. The Grammy winner recently stated that she will re-record her self-titled album ahead of its 20th anniversary. She announced the news on the Tamron Hall Show, where she also revealed that she now owns the masters for the 2002 album.
“It’s so surreal,” Ashanti exclaimed as she rejoiced over the news. “I have an incredible legal team, and I signed my first record deal when I was 14 years old, so understanding and seeing how things have evolved so much from then to now, as well as intellectually understanding what you’re signing, is so crucial nowadays. The fact that I’ll be able to re-record and put together my debut album.”
“It’s incredibly humbling,” she continued. It’s a great honor. I’m extremely appreciative. The fact that we are still here, that we are surviving through a pandemic, and that these benefits are still rolling in, it just makes me so joyful, so humbled, and such a believer.” “It’s such a blessing, you know, the fact that we’re still here, we’re living through a pandemic, and these benefits are still rolling in, it just makes me so happy, so humbled, and such a believer again,” Ashanti ended.
The news comes after she made a surprise appearance during Fat Joe and Ja Rule’s Verzuz battle earlier this month. It marked the second time she was on the series, having previously gone up against Keyshia Cole earlier this year.
