CL is one of the most established musicians in the K-Pop world, having garnered notice and acclaim as a global force even before BTS. The South Korean rapper and pop artist, born Lee Chae-rin, is finally back and preparing to release her debut studio album, Alpha. She returned earlier this year after a long sabbatical, first with a poignant homage to her late mother, “Wish You Were Here,” and then with the furious new single “Spicy.”
That single introduced her album, Alpha, which was originally set to be released last year but was moved to this year, and it’s a return to form for CL, with songs like “Hello Bitches” and “The Baddest Female” harkening back to her previous work. She’s revealed another new cut from Alpha tonight, which is a mix of sweet and spicy. The bravado of “Spicy” is tempered by some of the delicacy of her pop sound on “Lover Like Me.” That tenderness doesn’t stop her from reaching full-on rap mode near the end of the song for a Nicki-level verse.
