H.E.R. and Kane Brown may come from opposite sides of the musical spectrum, but their new song “Blessed & Free” brings them together flawlessly. Brown has had a tremendous run in the country genre, which is largely dominated by white artists, despite the fact that he is biracial, with Black and Cherokee ancestors.
Brown has been collaborating with a variety of musicians outside of his genre recently, including blackbear on “Memory” and now H.E.R. As for the “Best Part” singer, her new album Back Of My Mind has already garnered praise, earning her Amazon Prime support and building on the reputation she’s already established thanks to her previous ventures, H.E.R. and I Used To Know Her.
Both musicians managed to split the distance between their respective sounds on “Blessed & Free,” which shares a name with Brown’s tour, with plenty of funk, groove, R&B, and a dash of country tossed in. They collaborated with ACM and CMT Music Award winner Alex Alvga on the black-and-white video that accompanies the song.
