Saint Rien approaches music in the same way that a painter approaches a canvas. He paints his canvas with emotion, and his pen talks directly to the listener’s heart. The production is multi-layered and does not adhere to any particular genre.
Saint chatted with Rolling Out about his music, life in Nashville, and his thoughts on the current state of the music industry.
Take a moment to discuss the video for “Medusa.” What was the inspiration behind it? What is the message being conveyed?
The Truman Show influenced the “Medusa” video in part. Throughout the film, there is a story about him utilizing magazine clippings to remember his true love while trapped in a synthetic environment. The film depicts what it’s like to be trapped in a life or relationship that isn’t serving its purpose, or to be imprisoned in a cycle. French surrealist movie and the way it unnerves the viewer also inspired me.
How does being born in Australia and based in Nashville inform your music?
After living in a few different places, I can honestly say I’ve found a home here in Nashville. Everyone in the music community is so warm and passionate and excited to work. I don’t know if it will change my sound as much as just inspire me to work.
