Since his breakthrough in 2018, Don Toliver has been able to sustain a continuous level of popularity. Travis Scott’s “Can’t Say,” from his Astroworld album, had a guest verse. Two years later, in 2020, the Houston native released his sophomore album Heaven Or Hell, which raised his profile and demonstrated that he was capable of putting together a great and unified body of work. With his newly released third album, Life Of A Don, Toliver hopes to demonstrate this once more.
The reunion of Toliver and Travis Scott on “Flocky Flocky” is the highlight of the 16-track collection. Woozy synths and a head-bobbing bass carry the track, which fits nicely into the pocket where rappers thrive. It’s their first collaboration since Toliver’s Heaven Or Hell project’s “Euphoria.” The rest of Life Of A Don includes guest performances from Kali Uchis, Baby Keem, HVN, and Sofaygo, as well as the previously released singles “What You Need” and “Drugs N Hella Melodies.”
Toliver collaborated with Skrillex and Justin Bieber for the song “Don’t Go” before the album’s release, and Scott stated that he and Kylie Jenner are expecting their second child together.
