He’s been stealing movies since he was fourteen years old. Will Poulter has been a welcome presence on the big screen since Son of Rambow, enhancing everything from comedy like We’re the Millers to dramatic stuff like The Revenant, Detroit, and Midsommar. (Unfortunately, he had to leave the Lord of the Rings franchise, but for good reason.) He’s now prepared to bring one of Marvel’s most enigmatic characters to life.
Poulter has been cast as Adam Warlock in James Gunn’s third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Who is Adam Warlock, and where did he come from? He’s an artificial being developed in a lab who ends up shooting out into the cosmos on his own and gets himself into misadventures. He’s also quite powerful: he’s been known to change his own timeline to eliminate people he dislikes. He aids the Avengers and Captain Marvel in defeating Thanos in one timeline.
Obviously, this version of Adam Warlock is too late for that, but Gunn must have something special in store for him, especially since the pandemic provided him a lot more time than he thought to plot the threequel. Fortunately, Gunn is unlikely to handle Warlock the same way he treated other characters in The Suicide Squad. But not even Gunn could give Poulter a worse destiny than the one he got in Midsommar.
