Psychadelic indie rock collective Arktik Lake’s new EP Shimmer (feat. Marty Wilson-Piper) is overall enjoyable. The four-track EP starts off with the title track “Shimmer,” which is enjoyable but a little flat. The EP picks up with the classic rock song “Promises We Made,” which makes you want to bop your head and reminiscent about life. “Watching endless TV shows, and thinking of summer’s heat,” reads the lyrics. “Hombre” is also an upbeat song with a cowboy or shogun feel that’s also enjoyable.
Overall, the entire project shines when Arktik Lake jams out with their instruments like in the beginning of “Misty Shore.” In that time, listeners can really vibe out and let themselves drift off into the spaciness of the music.
According a press statement, the collective says the EP “draws on and collects experiences from our favorite musical styles and influences.” Listen to the EP on Spotify here.
