The promo, aptly titled “Change of Plans,” promises that Disney+’s upcoming Hawkeye series will shake things up when it debuts the day before Thanksgiving. Hawkeye will release two episodes on November 24, according to the new video, giving fans a whole Marvel movie to watch over the holidays. There’s also plenty of fresh material strewn throughout the minute-long movie, although Florence Pugh’s Yelena is nowhere to be found.
Concerns over the debut of The Book of Boba Fett have also been alleviated by the new Hawkeye release schedule. The Star Wars series was supposed to premiere on the same day as Hawkeye’s finale before today’s news, which looked like a strange move for Disney+. Sure, both shows would likely do well in terms of viewership, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said over the summer that social media comments have been a key statistic in deciding a show’s success.
With the release of both Book of Boba Fett and Hawkeye on the same day, the two would have had to compete for social media attention rather than dominating the pop culture conversation as most Disney+ series have done so far. Now it’s easy sailing for both of them as Hawkeye comes to a close only a few days before Christmas, which is appropriate given the show’s festive motif.
The official synopsis is as follows:
Clint Barton, a former Avenger, has an apparently easy mission: return to his family for Christmas. Possible? Perhaps with the assistance of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer who aspires to be a Super Hero. When a ghost from Barton’s past threatens to wreck far more than the holiday joy, the two are forced to work together.
Hawkeye’s first two episodes will release on Disney+ on November 24.
