Despite the fact that the Brooklyn Nets are not letting Kyrie Irving to play basketball, he still has a large following of fans who want to see him on the floor. Hundreds of Kyrie Irving’s fans descended on the Barclays Center earlier today, chanting “Let Kyrie Play,” despite the fact that he is not permitted to play or train with his team until he has received his vaccination. Kyrie Irving has a lot of supporters, and they were out in force during the Brooklyn Nets’ recent home game. Supporters of Kyrie Irving descended on the Barclays Center to demand that he be allowed to play basketball regardless of his current immunization status.
While attempting to enter the front gate of the New York City venue, the fans could be heard yelling “Let Kyrie play.” Fortunately, local police and Barclays security were on hand, and the scene did not spiral out of control, with no one being arrested or jailed for showing support for Kyrie. Sean Marks, the Brooklyn Nets’ general manager, recently indicated that star player Kyrie Irving “will not play or practice with the team until he is eligible to be a full participant,” as we previously reported. This comes after multiple stories of Kyrie refusing to be immunized, as well as the problems it has caused his teammates and the NBA.
The Nets said in a statement that Kyrie would not be allowed to play part-time and that he would be welcome back provided he met New York City’s immunization requirements. Marks went on to say that the decision to trade Kyrie Irving was made in the best interests of the team. “He had a decision to make, and he made it. My responsibility here, once again, is to make what we believe to be the best option and choices for the organization as a whole moving forward.
They’re not always ones that are going to be met with open arms and a thumbs-up. These are hard decisions. Just like I’m sure it wasn’t easy for Kyrie either to have to make that [decision] to not be around his teammates,” he said.
