Boston rapper BIA follows up on the success of her viral smash “Whole Lotta Money” with a new single, “Can’t Touch This,” from the recently released deluxe version of her debut album, For Certain. The record, which was produced by DJ Pharoah, IROCC, and London Jae, samples Kelis’ 2003 hit “Milkshake” while also taking lyrical cues from MC Hammer’s hallmark smash of the same name. As a result, BIA has created a confident, surprisingly polished club hymn to proclaim her dominance.
Naturally, the video incorporates certain visual elements from its musical inspiration, while updating Kelis’ “Milkshake” video’s diner theme. Rather than a fast-casual diner bringing all the boys to the yard, BIA uses her BIA Shakes food truck to bring the yard to the boys. She also shoots sequences in a laundry and on the well-kept lawn of a pastel dollhouse, all while being surrounded by colorfully costumed dancers.
BIA’s breakthrough year has seen her acquire not just a rare co-sign from erstwhile hip-hop regent Nicki Minaj on the “Whole Lotta Money” remix, but also an invitation from T-Pain to join him and Kehlani on their “I Like Dat” remix. As she nears the end of Don Toliver’s Life Of A Don Tour, BIA’s other hit from the album, “Besito,” is gathering traction.
