A former Virginia Tech linebacker has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the deadly beating of his Tinder date.
Isimemen Etute, 18, said in court that he met a lady named “Angie” on Tinder and went to her residence in April, where his Tinder date performed a sexual act on Etute. Etute returned to the home the following month, touched his Tinder date, switched on his flashlight to have a closer look inside the dark room, discovered his Tinder date was a male, and repeatedly punched the victim, according to a detective.
Isimemen Etute has been charged with the murder of Jerry Smith, 40, and was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday. The date of his hearing has been set on November 18th.
Smith died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head, according to medical examinations.
Etute was released from prison in June after posting a $75,000 bond and is now under house arrest. The judge ordered him to remain in Virginia Beach with his family. During the investigation, Etute has been suspended from the football team and from school.
