Baby Tate has had a terrific year in 2021. The rapper is celebrating a shift to a new record label with a brand new tune and video, after revealing her name change earlier this month, dropping the “Yung” from Baby Tate. Tate, who was previously signed to Issa Rae’s Atlantic-backed Raedio label, will now release music through Warner Records, and her first single is a petty celebration. The rapper twerks and interrupts dozens of events throughout the frenetic video, a play on the word “Pedi,” as in short for pedicure. She raps on one of the verses wedged between the song’s fast-paced melody, “I’m pettier/pedier than my toes.”
She told Uproxx in a cover story earlier this year that one of the reasons she puts herself out there so freely is to help others feel comfortable with themselves. “As long as I’m comfortable, I’ve always been a brash, out in the open person.” I’ve always wanted to let others know that it’s alright to be who they are as well. Because YOLO, I just like to laugh and make people laugh and have a good time in life.”
