What a whirlwind of a few years in terms of release dates. Morbius was set to release in October 2020, and the first teaser trailer was released in January 2020, following widespread interest in Jared Leto’s somber first look. People were probably curious about how he’d make a comic-book comeback after his dreadful Joker performance in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Leto played a different Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut, and he’s also gearing up to portray the most cartoonish Gucci family member of all in House of Gucci, so the timing is all messed up.
He’s hooked on prostheses and doesn’t look like himself. That much is clear, and we now have a full trailer after a brief showed Leto promising a “web of possibilities” (which Tobey Maguire-Spidey fans loved). Yes, Sony executives understood we wanted Michael Keaton to play Vulture and Jared Harris to play the most dignified man in the room. According to the synopsis:
Michael Morbius, a biochemist, attempts to cure himself of a rare blood illness, but when his experiment goes wrong, he unwittingly infects himself with vampirism.
