Ye gave his first full interview since the release of his ninth album Donda on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s podcast, Drink Champs, just over two months after the album was released. The trio discussed a variety of issues, including Donda, his presidential campaign, and his tumultuous marriage with Kim Kardashian, but statements regarding his former GOOD Music signees Big Sean and John Legend have surprised many.
N.O.R.E. requested Ye to choose between Big Sean and Pusha T, two artists who have been linked to his GOOD Music label for quite some time. It was here when Ye made his scathing remarks regarding Sean. “When I die, it’ll say on my gravestone, ‘I deserve to be here because I signed Big Sean,'” Ye explained. “I’m saying [that] the worst thing I’ve ever done was sign Big Sean,” he said. After N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN expressed surprise at his harsh statement, Ye explained his reasoning.
“Nah man, look, I know this man mama bro, you know what I’m saying? I’ve changed this man’s family and both John Legend and Big Sean, when I ran for office, got used quick by the Democrats to come at their boy that actually changed their life and that’s some sellout sh*t.” He added, “I don’t rock with neither of them and I need my apologies. I ain’t saying they gonna change, but n****s is scared.”
Sean reportedly responded on Twitter with a barrage of laughing emojis after catching wind of Ye’s remarks before personally addressing Ye. “I was just talking to this guy, and he ain’t saying anything!!!” Sean held up two photos of himself, Ye, and Hit-Boy. “And this was after the interview!” says the narrator. @kanyewest [laughing emoji], I’m dying laughing at you.”
