Many people are still dealing with the unfortunate conclusion of the Astroworld Festival this year. According to Billboard, in the first case, an attendee who was allegedly hurt at the festival said that the incident was a “expected and preventable disaster.” The guest was identified as Manuel Souza, who filed a petition in Harris County District Court on Saturday. For the incident, Travis Scott, Live Nation, and organizer ScoreMore were all sued. According to Manuel Souza’s attorney, Steve Kherkher, “Defendants failed to properly prepare and run the performance in a safe manner.”
Instead, they consciously ignored the extreme risks of harm to concertgoers, and, in some cases, actively encouraged and fomented dangerous behaviors.” Souza went on to say that security overlooked the possibility of the outcome earlier in the day, such as when “concertgoers breached a security gate around the park, stampeded into the premises, and trampled over one another.”
Drake was also sued by Paredes, in addition to Travis and Live Nation. According to documents obtained by the site, the lawsuit claims that both Travis and Drake were aware, or should have been aware, of the crowd’s reaction once they took the stage together. The festival’s security was also criticized for failing to keep everyone safe. Paredes is reportedly seeking at least a million dollars in damages.
