After more than a year of devastation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kris Heaton Band is sharing “a positive message to inspire people to realize they can overcome any obstacle,” through the latest album, My City of Gold. The opening track, “My City of Gold,” which is also the title track represents Heaton’s “belief that there is something beautiful awaiting us beyond our earthly existence.”
“There is peace waiting there for you. Through the darkness, a light sounds through. A choir of angels sings just for you. Please let me leave the ship of fools,” sings Heaton who wrote, recorded, and performed all of the songs with the exception of the harmonica performed by Howard Hamilton on “Father Song” and “Raze Your Hands.”
As the press release notes, Heaton highlights the national homeless problem in “Out in the Streets” and sings about the relationship between fathers and daughters in “Fathers Song.”
Overall the album has songs that country rock fans could like including “My City of Gold” and “Love is Up To You” but other songs like “Raze Your Hands” and “Lyfe Is Good” may be better off skipped.
“Over the years I have learned that some people play golf, I play music. I thank anyone who has listened to my music over the years and has been inspired by it. Thank you all,” said Heaton in a press statement.
