For Obstinately Refusing To Wear A Mask, Marjorie Taylor Greene Has Had A Staggering Amount Of Fine Money Deducted From Her Congressional Pay

Marjorie Taylor Greene made news earlier this year after shredding a Nancy Pelosi document and incurring her first punishment for not wearing a mask on the House floor. She passed the 20-fine mark less than a week ago. That totaled $48,000, or more than a quarter of her $174,000 annual income as a freshman congresswoman. Marjorie, on the other hand, wasn’t finished yet. “Why do I get penalized for not wearing a mask when I’m sitting in a chair on the House floor the same as others dining unmasked at a restaurant?” she queried firmly on Twitter. ” Marj also stated that she exercises frequently, which she believes protects her from COVID, and that she opted to continue to be penalized for refusing to heed Nancy Pelosi’s directive. Well, congrats (I guess?) to Marjorie for doing the inconceivable and squandering all of her wages due to her obstinacy.

Greene has reportedly surpassed the $50,000 barrier, but there’s a catch: she’s got competition (and it’s not Lauren Boebert, who will toss a mask at an aide but won’t open her wallet for fines). Here’s what’s going on right now, according to The Hill:

Rep. Andrew Clyde, Georgia’s second congressman, was also penalized for not wearing a mask, with the committee citing at least three instances in which he disobeyed the House mask regulation.
Green has been fined $50,000 for not wearing a mask since last week, which Congress will withdraw automatically from her $174,000 paycheck. Clyde’s total fine now exceeds $30,000 as a result of his newest infraction.

It’s a statement, to be sure. The first infraction of mask-flouting is punishable by a $500 fine, according to Pelosi’s mandate. Each refusal adds another $2,500 to Greene’s total, which she boasted about on Twitter after she reached the $25,000 threshold. Is it possible for her to spend her entire annual pay before the end of the year? It’s a distinct possibility. Greene will have to cram a lot of mask tantrums into her calendar because she’ll be working over the holidays. Marjorie Taylor Greene, on the other hand, is the only person who can pull this off.
