After being denied early release three times because a court didn’t believe his “change of heart,” Jacob Chansley, or the QAnon Shaman, tried a new strategy this time: quoting Forrest Gump. The Shaman was one of the first Capitol rioters apprehended by law police after the January 6 attack on the United States, thanks to his “Chewbacca bikini” and eccentric attire. The Capitol is located in Washington, DC. And it is for this reason that he is demanding that his sentence be lowered in light of his time served (along with his persistent assertion that he has rejected QAnon).
According to The Daily Beast, the Shaman’s attorney made a blatant error in the request while paraphrasing the iconic Tom Hanks film:
Chansley’s attorney misspelled Forrest Gump’s name in the petition for time served, writing, “‘My momma always said, you’ve got to put the past behind you before you can move on.’ —Forest Gump [sic].” Chansley has spent 317 days in “dark, fully enclosed” solitary confinement in Alexandria, Virginia since his arrest due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to the filing.
According to new court records, the Shaman was scrambling to avoid prosecution for the January 6 attack just days after his detention. According to Raw Story, the Shaman’s lawyer filed a pardon request with former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on January 14, but despite personally inviting the MAGA rioters to Washington, D.C., Donald Trump did not consider them deserving of forgiveness. for the insurgent protest “Stop the Steal”
