G-Eazy’s mum passed away recently. The “No Limit” rapper announced the news on Instagram, along with a carousel of photos of the Bay Area native and his mother at various periods in their life. With them came a voice memo titled “Opportunity Cost Mom,” in which his mother is moved to tears as she expresses her pride in him and his achievements. G-Eazy also used a length caught in the Instagram post to honor and remember his mother.
He wrote, “I love you so much.” “The shock hasn’t allowed me accept the fact that I’ll never be able to hold you again.” My mother is my queen, my idol, my everything. The tears aren’t going to stop. My eyes hurt, my face hurts, my body hurts, and I’m in pain all over. There is no secure place to hide, and there is no pain-free position to rest, sit, or stand. The agony is unbearable. But I’m relieved to know you’re done with yours. He went on to call her a “inspiration” and the “definition of super-human” before disclosing that she died shortly after persuading him to get treatment for his substance misuse.
“As deeply as I was worried about you and your physical health, I didn’t realize the extent of just how worried you were about me until you sent me the hardest letter I’ve ever had to read,” he wrote. “Going to treatment for alcohol and drugs was my decision but your letter was what ultimately persuaded me. They say the opposite of addiction is connection, and I’d never felt more connected to you than I have in the past months. Coming home to this wasn’t easy, and nothing will ever be moving forward… but like you would always say, ‘one step at a time and don’t look at the summit’. I love you so much.”
