Serena Williams’ Latest Book Will Encourage Young Black Females

And having that be a very meaningful first doll for her, if just to introduce her to something that might perhaps stop a cycle that we're all aware of.

Serena Williams, 40, has announced she is publishing a book called ‘The Adventures of Qai Qai,‘ which is based on her four-year-old daughter Olympia’s favorite doll, Qai Qai, who became an online hit after Serena created her an own Instagram account in 2018. Invisible Universe, a company that specializes in entertainment technology, created Qai Qai’s social media presence. Invisible Universe will also help with marketing.

the publication “Qai Qai is a wonderful member of our family,” Serena said in a statement to People magazine. “We hope ‘The Adventures of Qai Qai’ will provide people a fresh way to welcome Qai Qai into their own household.” “Like many others throughout the world, storytime is such a crucial part of our evening routine.”
Meanwhile, Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, recently stated that finding a “Black baby doll” for their daughter was “very essential” to him and Serena. “I know one thing that was incredibly important to us four years ago was making sure Olympia had a Black baby doll,” he stated.

“And having that be a very meaningful first doll for her, if just to introduce her to something that might perhaps stop a cycle that we’re all aware of.”
The Baby Doll Test has been used to illustrate the issues of societal discrimination and how deeply embedded it is in culture. “We started seeing this story play out online of folks who were just so charmed with this doll and were really thrilled to learn about the stories and adventures she was going to go on very quickly.” “I think a lot of people have connected with the notion of a really naughty, fun, clever, courageous, and strong little girl doll, and I’m thrilled to see where she goes, and I hope it can encourage kids — boys and girls, Black and white – all around the world to just have fun and dream.”
In September 2022, ‘The Adventures of Qai Qai’ will be released.
