The NFL game between the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills on Monday night was enthralling on numerous levels. The headline was the weather, which caused the Patriots to virtually cease throwing the ball entirely, forcing Buffalo to go through some extraordinary hardships that ultimately led to a home loss. While the game was entertaining on its own, many viewers found the ESPN2 Manningcast featuring Peyton and Eli to be much more entertaining, with one of the best moments involving Joe Buck in the night’s final moments.
Peyton asked Buck if he had ever considered having a guest that Buck and Troy Aikman could interview to pass the time while the Patriots were virtually clinching the win. The response elicited a burst of laughter and a burst of pyrotechnics.
Buck roasting Peyton makes for excellent television, and Eli’s reaction is as impressive. Buck’s style of humor is typically sardonic and dry in this way, but the delivery was spot-on, scorching Peyton about what might be the most painful loss he’s ever experienced, a 43-8 Super Bowl loss to the Seahawks.
Granted, Peyton has had enough success that this may not be as painful as it appears, but it was the ideal response to the question. Overall, the Manningcast’s attractiveness was once again demonstrated, as it created a memorable moment even though the game was already under way in the wee hours of the night.
