When you get people out of their comfort zones for in-depth interviews, it can be a lot of fun — just look at Sean Evans’ invincible tongue, which allows him to get meme-worthy responses from guests as they try to eat the spiciest wings while answering even spicier questions (sorry, it’s such a good tagline). A new show that will premiere next week will try to achieve something similar. Rappers and other performers will leave the rush and bustle of their urban origins for the beauty and quiet of nature in HBO’s Chillin Island, which premieres on December 17.
Of course, making people feel at ease while they’re way out of their comfort zones is also important, so Chillin Island has paired these rappers with members of their own fraternity: New York rappers Despot and Lakutis, as well as former Das Racist member Dap (aka Dapwell). They’ll travel to deserts, marshes, and other natural havens in order to communicate with nature and understand human nature.
Coi Leray, Gunna, Killer Mike, Lil Tecca, Lil Yachty, Rosala, Ski Mask the Slump God, Young Thug, and Ezra Koening of Vampire Weekend are among the musicians that will be performing.
