Olivia Wilde has been harassed and subjected to a very sexist narrative since rumors of her dating Harry Styles began to circulate. This is owing to the age gap between her and the former One Direction member. Because of rampant sexism, Olivia has had to deal with a lot of useless commentary about her age. Harry is 27 and Olivia is 37, a perfectly normal and even small age gap if it were reversed in Hollywood, but because of rampant sexism, Olivia has had to deal with a lot of useless commentary about her age. And it’s all happened as she’s been working on her second feature picture, Don’t Worry Darling, the follow-up to her critically praised debut, Booksmart, which also stars her boyfriend.
Olivia admiring Harry’s acting was one of the first signs that the two were dating, and both sides have kept quiet about the relationship since then. However, in a recent Vogue cover story, Wilde had to concede that her happiness is part of what motivates her to speak out against the constant media scrutiny.
“It’s obviously really tempting to correct a false narrative,” she began. “But I think what you realize is that when you’re really happy, it doesn’t matter what strangers think about you. All that matters to you is what’s real, and what you love, and who you love. In the past 10 years, as a society, we have placed so much more value on the opinion of strangers rather than the people closest to us. I’m happier than I’ve ever been. And I’m healthier than I’ve ever been, and it’s just wonderful to feel that.”
Vogue goes on to say that while she never confirms the relationship by name, we can all see the writing on the wall. And as for being happier than ever, I’m quite sure I’d be if I was dating Harry Styles – or working on a film with him.
