The Orlando Magic haven’t had much luck this season, as they entered Friday night’s game against the Miami Heat with a 5-24 record, just missing out on being the league’s worst team. Wendell Carter Jr.’s play has been a bright spot for the squad this year, but the former first-round pick was forced to leave the game due to a knee injury.
Carter put a screen on Miami’s Max Strus in the second quarter, and while nothing remarkable appeared to happen, the two collided legs, leaving Carter in excruciating pain. Carter attempted to dive to the basket but struggled to put weight on his right leg, and after a bucket by BJ Johnson, he fell to the floor and was unable to continue.
Carter was on the ground clutching his right knee, and he needed a wheelchair to get to the locker room after being inspected by Orlando’s training staff.
Carter was officially diagnosed with a lower leg injury, despite the fact that it appeared he had hurt his knee.
Carter was traded to the Magic in exchange for Nikola Vucevic, after spending the first 2.5 years of his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls. Carter and Orlando agreed to a four-year, $50 million contract this offseason.
