The music world was shocked to learn on Sunday morning that West Coast rapper Drakeo The Ruler had died at the age of 28. He was fatally murdered while performing at the Once Upon A Time Festival in Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Times, a brawl broke out backstage during the event on Saturday night, and a group of individuals approached Drakeo, resulting in the stabbing. As initially reported by Rolling Stone, he was swiftly brought to a local hospital, but regrettably, he died hours later.
Snoop Dogg, who was identified as one of the festival’s organizers alongside Live Nation and Bobby Dee, released a statement shortly after Drakeo’s death was verified. Snoop wrote, “I’m saddened by the incidents that occurred last night at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival.” “My heartfelt condolences go out to Drakeo the Ruler’s family and loved ones. I’m not associated with anything unpleasant, and as one of the many artists, I was there to bring wonderful energy to my hometown of Los Angeles.”
“Last night, I was in my dressing room when I was notified of the event, and I elected to leave the festival grounds immediately,” he stated. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by tragedy. Please take care of yourselves, love one another, and be safe. IN HIP HOP, I’M PRAYING FOR PEACE.”
Snoop joins the list of musicians who have posted about Drakeo’s passing on social media, including Drake, Saweetie, Kenny Beats, Sango, and others.
