Klay Thompson is on the verge of returning from back-to-back catastrophic leg ailments, having missed the last two and a half seasons due to a ruptured ACL and torn Achilles. Klay tore his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals, the same series in which Kevin Durant tore his Achilles. It was Thompson’s first major injury of his career.
The injury occurred in what turned out to be a pivotal Game 6 for the Raptors, and Draymond Green figured it would be a good idea to go check on Klay the day after the loss and injury (and maybe get a chance to use his pool). According to Green, Thompson wanted to do something to distract himself from the injury and the Finals defeat, so the two played dominoes, which was obviously for money, and Green’s attempt to make Klay feel better ended with him taking Klay’s money.
It’s a great story and one you can certainly imagine Klay never letting Draymond live down, as there he is wallowing in misery with a torn ACL and Green takes $4,000 off him. That said, that is what a good friend does in that situation, not offering pity but a sense of normalcy for a bit.
