A new song by Atlanta rapper Latto recently garnered criticism from another female rapper who had a similar premise, causing her to respond to the other rapper’s charges of copying. On December 22, Latto posted a video of herself posing for photos in bejeweled lingerie while carrying a goat on a leash on TikTok, coupled with a video of herself posing for photos in bejeweled lingerie while holding a goat on a leash (get it, GOAT?). Latto may be heard rapping over the sparse beat, “It’s giving boss bitch.”
Big Indo, a Cleveland rapper, compared Latto’s new song to her own single, “Givin’ Me,” on Instagram, noting similarities in the skeleton production, stating, “NOT THE BEAT TOO but quicker pace.” She also posted a couple slides of herself in a similar bikini.
When the tale was picked up by gossip bloggers, however, the “Big Energy” rapper shot down the connection on her Instagram story. She wrote, “It’s givin… nobody.” “Do you honestly think I’m one of the 14 people that previously listened to her?” I’m sorry, but I can’t make this stuff up. I’m over here annoyed because I’ve never heard of or seen Shawty before!!!! REMEMBER NOT TO FLATTER YOURSELF! Nothing! I’d never heard of her, never seen her, never listened to her! You’re giving yourself way too much credit. Everyone says “it’s giving,” and I just happened to write a song with the term REGULAR ASS BASIC ASS.”
