Tyler, the Creator achieved considerable popularity in 2021 with the publication of his album Call Me If You Get Lost, and don’t be shocked if he achieves even more success under a new stage name.
The rapper discussed the origins of his moniker in an interview with Fast Company.
“When I was 13, I built a MySpace page and that’s where my stage name came from,” the Creator explained. “I had three of them: one was for friends, another was for something different, and the third was just for ideas.” I’d post drawings and images I’d taken, as well as beats I’d created.”
With all of the fame that his beats were bringing him, the Creator chose to keep the name throughout high school. He’s now thinking about just going by his real name.
“It’s stupid, but it stuck with me, so it’s fine.” However, writing my whole name in all caps, Tyler Okonma, looks incredibly amazing. So you might see more of that, I’m not sure. I’m getting older, and I think as people get older, they start to realize s—, and they simply start changing.”
What do you think of the name “TYLER OKONMA”? Should he rename himself?
