Cue the black beret, snaps, and black sunglasses (we’re looking at you Judy Funny!). Perry’s latest album, Maximize, is enjoyable for anyone who’s a fan of jazz and a bit of hip-hop. Perry, who’s also known by his full name Max Clemmons Jr. Perry, said in a press statement that he “just wants to make people happy.” In this album, he does that by giving a song for everybody. “Do You” and “Dinner Table” could pull ’80s hip-hop fans while “Baby Making Music” is a slow track for the cool jazz fans. The final track, aptly named “Finale” is a piano ballad.
“I started playing piano when my father bought a second hand piano home when I was about 8 years old. I started playing by ear and listening to a wide variety of different genres of music. I listened to the likes of Earth, Wind, and Fire to Jeff Lorber, Pleasure, Heatwave, and many others. Chick Corea was also instrumental in my musical development,” said Perry in a press statement.
