Doung Henthorn’s new album contains several new songs and three covers. “Set Em Up Throw Em Back Knock Em Down” starts off the album in a fun fashion. Despite being a slower track (the kind that’ll make you sway side-to-side in a bar with an ex-boyfriend like you’re in a Hallmark rom-com), it’s the kind of pick-me-up that’ll keep a person moving forward.
However, Henthorn really shines in his worthwhile country cover of The Cars’ “Drive” and The Beatles’ “Across the Universe.” The final track, “Devil’s Come Home,” provides the perfect ending to the album as well as it’s full of attitude and funk fitting for a finale.
“It feels right to release now. It’s a bit dark and obviously contemplative, but really a very positive and hopeful record,” said Henthorn in a statement to the press. “Sometimes dark, sometimes poking fun at myself, from mellow and somber to straight up hard rock, I feel it’s the most honest record I’ve done to date. There are three covers on the record as well that fit perfectly.”
