As expected, the 66th Annual Grammy Awards was full of glitz, glamor, amazing performances and pleasant surprises. Many of this year’s honerees showed up and showed out. Among those, was the mega talented and multifaceted Victoria Monét .
After years of penning hits for a multitude of other artists, Victoria Monét has finally received her commercial breakthrough. With her debut album, Jaguar II, she has made two of her biggest moves with scoring the Grammys for Best R&B Album, and Best New Artist. On the heels of its mega hit, “On My Mama”, Jaguar II, deserves every bit of the acclaim that it is receiving. The song continues to break the internet, and take female empowerment to another level.
Released on June 16, 2023, the sassy, sing-along hit samples Chalie Boy’s 2009 hit, “I Look Good”. “On My Mama” is produced and co-written by Jeff Gitelman, D’Mile, and Deputy. It also features additional writing from Monét herself, along with Kyla and Chalie Boy. So far in her career, Monét has collaborated with many notable artists including Chole x Halle and Ariana Grande. Although this is her first win, Monét, is no stranger to being nominated. In 2019, she received three Grammy nominations for her work on Ariana Grande’s hit album, Thank U, Next. A frequent collaborator of Grande, Monét, has co-written songs for each of her studio albums including Yours Truly (2013) and Positions (2020).
At this year’s ceremony, Jaguar II, also earned the Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classic, the work of John Kercy.
