Colin Farrell, renowned for his portrayal of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot in “The Batman” and its spin-off series “The Penguin,” is reportedly in discussions to take on the role of Sgt. Frank Rock in an upcoming DC Studios film. This project is set to be directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for films like “Call Me By Your Name” and “Bones and All.”
Sgt. Rock, a character introduced by DC Comics in 1959, is depicted as a World War II hero leading the Easy Company against Nazi forces. The character’s popularity led to a dedicated comic series that ran until 1988.
Initially, actor Daniel Craig was rumored to be associated with the Sgt. Rock role; however, he was never officially attached to the project. Farrell’s potential involvement underscores his expanding presence within the DC universe, though it’s worth noting that his portrayal of The Penguin exists in a separate narrative continuity from the Sgt. Rock storyline.
The screenplay for the Sgt. Rock film is being penned by Justin Kuritzkes, who previously collaborated with Guadagnino on the film “Queer.” As of now, production schedules and release dates have not been announced.
Fans have expressed enthusiasm about Farrell’s potential casting, highlighting his versatility and the prospect of bringing depth to the iconic war hero.
This development adds to DC Studios’ expanding slate, which includes upcoming projects like “Superman,” “Peacemaker” Season 2, “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” and HBO’s “Lanterns” series.
