In a revealing conversation on The Jason Lee Show, Raven-Symoné shared the profound influence her late father, Christopher Pearman, had on her decision to undergo breast reduction and liposuction surgeries at the tender age of 15. The former That’s So Raven star described her father as “narcissistic” and “abusive,” noting that his passing has been both “freeing and regressing” for her.
Reflecting on her early surgeries, Raven-Symoné recounted, “I went from a triple D all the way down to a B. Someone said I needed to do it in order to get a show.” She emphasized that her father “suggested strongly” that she undergo the procedures. These experiences have led her to seek Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to process and heal from the past traumas.
The actress also addressed her previous comments about not identifying as African American, stating, “I am not an African American. I’m an American. I am a Black American, I’m definitely Black, and yes, my ancestors came from Africa.” She elaborated on her perspective, questioning, “How long does a bloodline have to live in one land before they are considered a pure species of that land?”
Raven-Symoné’s candid revelations shed light on the pressures faced by child stars and the lasting impact of parental influence on their personal and professional lives.
