In a recent development, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, charged with the first-degree murder of fellow student Austin Metcalf, has had his bond reduced from $1 million to $250,000. A Collin County judge ruled that Anthony would be placed under house arrest, requiring him to remain at his parents’ residence and wear an ankle monitor.
The incident occurred on April 2, 2025, during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Witnesses reported that Anthony and Metcalf, both 17 and students at Centennial and Memorial High Schools respectively, did not know each other prior to the altercation. The confrontation began when Metcalf asked Anthony to move from an area designated for his track team. The situation escalated, leading Anthony to allegedly stab Metcalf in the chest.
Following his arrest, Anthony reportedly admitted to the stabbing, claiming it was in self-defense. He is currently being held in the Collin County jail, with his legal team seeking to reduce his bond further.
The case has garnered significant attention, prompting both families to establish fundraising campaigns. As of now, over $150,000 has been raised for Anthony’s legal defense, while more than $275,000 has been collected in memory of Metcalf. Both families emphasize the importance of focusing on justice and supporting their respective communities during this difficult time.
