Taymor McIntyre, better known as Tay-K, has been convicted of murder for the second time, this time for the 2017 shooting of photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred while Tay-K was on the run after cutting off his ankle monitor during house arrest for a previous murder charge.
Prosecutors stated that Tay-K attempted to rob Saldivar of his camera equipment before shooting him in his car. Although he was acquitted of capital murder, which would have resulted in an automatic life sentence without parole, the jury unanimously found him guilty of a lesser murder charge. He now faces an additional 5 to 99 years in prison.
This conviction adds to Tay-K’s existing 55-year sentence for his involvement in a 2016 home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, that led to the death of Ethan Walker. During that incident, although Tay-K did not shoot the victim, prosecutors maintained he planned and participated in the robbery, making him equally liable.
Tay-K gained notoriety in 2017 when he released the track “The Race” while on the run, which gained attention for its lyrics and visuals featuring wanted posters. He was captured in New Jersey in June 2017.
The punishment phase for the current murder conviction is set to resume on April 15.
