BET+ has officially greenlit Varnell Hill, a new workplace comedy that brings back Tommy Davidson as the charismatic late-night talk show host from the classic ’90s sitcom Martin. The series promises a humorous and satirical look into the evolving world of television production.
In Varnell Hill, viewers will follow the titular character’s quest to maintain relevance in the fast-paced media industry. The show delves into the complexities of network politics, creative challenges, and the personal dynamics that come with producing a successful talk show. Expect a blend of sharp satire, fourth-wall-breaking moments, and a fresh take on the beloved character.
The series boasts a strong creative team, with Martin creator Martin Lawrence returning as co-creator and executive producer. Bentley Kyle Evans, known for his work on Martin, will serve as showrunner, writer, and director. Additional executive producers include Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, Andy Horne, Stacy Lyles, Robert Lawrence, and Rae Proctor. Rose Catherine Pinkney and Jason Harvey represent BET+ on the production team.
